Nancy’s story…

My first copyright started as a collection of lyrics, the Northeast rising sun Collection copyright 1982. Out of necessity it ended up an album of songs after a very long time. The songs were the result of observations of people socializing in bars. Of course, I had stage fright so I could not sing in front of people until 2010, so recording music waited until my first album, Out My Window. Recorded in 2012, this album was born out of that first copyright of songs from 1970-80 during the time I worked in bars. Some new written in 2010-2013 were added to round it out. It is a compilation of songs that reflect the artist history in the bar business. That’s the advantage of being the observer of human behavior in its natural habitat, at night away from the daily grind. As a bartender, you hear stories that reflect someone else’s daily grind and relationships.

Working on songs for the next few years, new material was created from Jazz and Blues, that I call “Jabluzz.” My latest release, It’s Personal, recorded in 2019-2020 was released in July 2022 and is almost biographical in the sense that the lyrics are from an artists personal life and contains a very intimate look at friends, family and life. This is very different from the first album, which was about the life of others from the artist perspective. It’s Personal is a compilation of songs written about more personal life experiences, that I believe most people could also identify with. Years ago, I started singing first with kids on the stoop out in front of the house. Moon River was our song of choice at the time. I also sang with a group called Little Singers of Montgomery county as a child, and we sang songs from around the world. Then there was pretending to be in a band and playing Beatle songs. In junior and senior high school it was chorus. By high school, I was writing poetry, and by 16 realized I needed to play an instrument to put a melody to the words. So what began as poetry turned into a song.

My influences , are Carol King, John Denver, of course The Beatles, James Taylor, Janise Joplin, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald and all the great Rock and Roll of the 60’s and 70’s, Motown, Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, The 5th Dimension, Moody Blues. There’s just so much great music to know and love.
